When downloading or converting video files from streaming websites and social platforms, you are presented with options like 360p, 720p HD, 1080p Full HD, and 4K Ultra HD. But what do these numbers really mean, and why is resolution only half the equation when it comes to true perceptual video quality?

Resolution: The Pixel Grid

Resolution refers to the total number of distinct pixels displayed on a screen, measured in width by height. The vertical pixel count is traditionally used as shorthand:

The Crucial Role of Bitrate

A common misconception is that a 1080p video always looks better than a 720p video. In reality, Bitrate (the amount of data processed per second) dictates visual clarity, compression artifacts, and color gradation.
